Born on February 22, 1937, in Shillington, Pennsylvania, Roger Penske was destined for greatness. With a passion for racing ignited by watching the Indianapolis 500 as a teenager, he began his motorsports career in the early 1960s. What started as a small tow truck business evolved into a thriving empire, with Penske Corporation now spanning multiple industries.
Penske's journey to becoming a legendary team owner began in the late 1950s. With his first IndyCar entry in 1962, he fielded a car for driver Jim Hurtubise. Although they didn't take home any wins that year, it marked the beginning of Penske's long and storied history in open-wheel racing.
Throughout the years, Penske has been associated with some of the most talented drivers in motorsports. His team, which has won 230 races and 33 championships, boasts an impressive roster of drivers, including Mario Andretti, Al Unser, Bobby Unser, Emerson Fittipaldi, Rick Mears, Danny Sullivan, and more recently, Helio Castroneves, Will Power, and Simon Pagenaud.
